They believed that life only brings disease, and that lice are God's pearls. Kings shared these beliefs. Isabella I, Queen of Castile, was proud that she bathed twice in her life; once at birth and once before her wedding. Her hands and nails were remarkably dirty. As for the early ages, they had beliefs that would make one's hair turn white with amazement! But let me review the least of them for you. Roman emperors used to drink poison every day, believing that this mixture was an antidote to deadly poisons and made them immune to them, starting from the end of the first century AD. They held strange beliefs and followed even stranger customs that can never be counted. And here, dear reader, comes the gist of the conversation, as one must be well aware that every era has its own system, customs and traditions that differ greatly from one era to another.
